A cabinet project starts with one door

Before planning the whole kitchen, make a record of a representative door and the exact change you want.

Separate the jobs

Changing handles, adjusting a hinge and refinishing a door are different tasks. Name the job before choosing tools. Photograph the existing hardware and record dimensions needed for replacements; similar-looking fittings may use different hole positions or adjustment systems.

Identify what you can

Record whether the door appears to be solid timber, veneered, laminate-faced or another construction. If the material is uncertain, retain that uncertainty. Do not infer a preparation method from the color of the surface.

Use a documented product system

A finish project needs a compatible cleaning, preparation, primer and topcoat sequence. Start from the relevant manufacturer instructions, including drying and handling requirements. A successful-looking first coat is not the same as a documented durable result.

Keep the sample record

Write down the products, batch or variant, application method and conditions used on the sample. Photograph before and after at a comparable angle. If the sample exposes damaged facing or poor adhesion, revisit the scope before repeating the process across every door.

Keep substrate identification, product instructions, measurements, preparation photographs and observed results together. We do not turn a generic checklist into a structural or installation specification.
